Yesterday, I went on a little adventure. A few friends and I ventured out into the world and went to IKEA. Ahhh Ikea. The magical place with little fake rooms looking so cozy.
*Warning* Do not sit on comfy beds after eating. An overwhelming nap sensation will come upon you.
We walked, shopped and discussed arrangements. We came home empty handed. Sometimes that happens. After Ikea came geocaching! Do you know about the geocaching world? Basically it's like a treasure hunt using GPS coordinates and clues. It great free entertainment.
Now on to Operation: Adventure. This summer is the summer of adventures near and far. Sunday I leave for Washington D.C. with a friend and we are so ready for adventure. So far our plans will include some obvious monument sight-seeing, one or two of the Smithsonian museums, cupcakes, a twilight tour, kayaking on the Potomac, and maybe even some geocaching. It will be grand. I will be good and take lots of pictures to share with you.
If you recall for my New Year's resolution, this is the year to cross things off my bucket list. It also happens that this summer was dubbed as Operation:Adventure. My friends, I know how to multi-task.
I've traveled and adventured with the best of them. My latest adventure in New York was obviously fantastic. One of the bonusibonusses extra thing was going to...da da da....
Breakfast at Tiffany's!!!! I was on cloud 9 how about cloud 100 there can be a cloud 100 right?
Hey, it's my blog I can make up cloud levels. I love Tiffany & Co. The people that work there are fabulous. The first person we see is a fantastic security guard in a suit looking rather dapper. There are 4 floors of magic. Pure magic. We decided to go to the top and work our way down. The next super nice person was the elevator attendant. Yes, Tiffany's has elevator attendants. Pretty magical.
I'm on cloud 100 times 10 now because I'm IN TIFFANY'S!!!!!!
And I maybe kinda bought myself a present.

There you have it my adventure at Tiffany & Co. And it is now officially cross off my bucket list.
My Operation:Adventure comes to a close this week as I return to work on Wednesday. Boy did it go out with a bang! I was able to go to NYC with the same friend I adventured with in D.C. I guess she is now a go-to travel buddy. Yeah! We had two goals for this weekend adventure.
Skippyjon Jones is a hour long free performance at the Lucille Lortel Theatre through August 17th. (Just in case you make it to New York.)
On to number 2 on the list. The Newsies. I grew up with this movie and had a total crush on Jack Kelly (Christian Bale) and Spot Conlon (Gabriel Damon). Ahhh. Fun times. Thankfully my friend Hannah felt the same need to see the Broadway musical and off we went.
It was A.maz.ing.

The dancing was unbelievable. This was the curtain call. Just the curtain call, people, think about how fantastic the show must be! So much energy!!!
Jeremy Jordan's voice is so powerful and astounding! Absolutely beautiful. I guess I still have that crush on Jack Kelly. The cast was super nice. After the show we met a couple guys from the orchestra. We talked to them for awhile and I asked them to sign my playbill. They laughed a little and were like "we're just in the band". Hello! It's a musical you are a very important part to make this magical. They liked that, I think. We also met a few of the stars...Kara Lindsay who played Katherine Plumber, Ben Fankhauser who played Davey, Andy Richardson who played Crutchie and Ryan Steele who played Specs. So super nice!!!
Thanks all for making my first Broadway experience a fantastic one!!!! And congrats on a smashing production!
Well folks, we made it back! It was a long week full of adventures and now you get to hear the stories.
In case you missed the Facebook updates I was in Washington DC last week. This trip was part of Operation: Adventure. This summer I want to have as much adventure as possible, because that is what summer breaks are for, right? Right.
I try to enjoy life as much as possible. That means that even the normal things in life can become fun. Last week I told you about our first challenge: The Metro. We took the Metro many times in a day and it is safe to say that 99.9% of the people in DC find this as a chore or just another part of their normal routine.
And then there is me and my friend Hannah.
We made it fun.
Yes, people, you heard me right.
Maybe you can figure out what we did....
As the train pulled in to the station we would stand where we thought the door would be. The record was Hannah with 4 consecutive correct guesses. She was good.
This just proves that if you think a little outside the box you can have fun doing all sorts of things.
I can't be the only one out there that does this. What things do you make fun that usually aren't?
Wowzers!!! The first day in DC was a success. Arriving a little after midnight, Monday morning was a lazy one. We eventually made our way into the city ready to take on our first challenge.

Our day was go go go from there. First stop was the Pentagon.
The memorial there for the 9/11 victums was amazing. A lot of thought went into it. The victum's name was ingraved on a bench. After reading the name, you look up to see how they died. If you are facing the Pentagon, they died in the Pentagon. Likewise if you are facing the airport, they were in the plane. Like I said a lot of thought.
We also checked out two Smithsonians, the Museum of American History and the Museum of Natural History. Our last stop was the National Archives. My little history dorky self was just ecstatic seeing the Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, The Constitution and The Magna Carta. Ahhh it was wonderful. It doesn't happen too often, but I made something and it actually turned out! Last month as part of my Operation:Adventure this summer, I helped run a kids camp. If you check out some of those pictures, you can probably guess we had a fantastic time. You might also be able to guess that the theme this year was the Olympics.
I got the brilliant idea that it wouldn't be right to have an Olympics theme without medals.
I then got the brilliant idea that I could make them super easy.
I was right.
I know the Olympics are winding down, but here is a simple craft for you to keep in mind if you ever have the sudden urge to make medals.
Supplies:
Super glittery scrapbook paper (Gold, Silver and Bronze...of course)
Round cork coasters (pk of 4 at Michaels for $.87)
Black acrylic paint and a little paint brush
Single hole punch
Double sticky tape
Ribbon
First I traced the coasters on the scrapbook paper. I bought 12" X 12" paper and could fit 9 on one sheet. If you don't need that many you could buy the 8 1/2" X 11".
I then poked a hole in the coaster with a pencil, marked on the paper where my hole should be and...Punch! Then use the magical double sticky tape to attach the two. You then can paint whatever you want your medal to say.
Now you add a sweet ribbon and ta-dah!!!
